Too Late To Save "My Fingers"

7" x 5" Oil on canvas.
This study did not sell on ebay and now will be destroyed. Video coming soon.

This oil painting is of my left index and middle fingers. I stuck them through a piece of cardboard to get a protruding, 3-dimentional affect. It is life size and very realistic.

Too Late To Save "Thrift Store Duck 2"

9" x 16" Charcoal on paper.
This study did not sell on ebay and will now be destroyed.

I purchased Thrift Store Duck back in 2006 at (you guessed it) a thrift store. I needed a model for a simple still life and at 49 cents he fit the bill (excuse the pun). At first glance he seemed like you’re typical, every day, ceramic duck / paperweight / pencil holder. However, as I began to study and draw him it became apparent that he was anything but ordinary. You see, upon close inspection, I discovered that at some point during his existence he had been broken and neatly glued back together, and whoever nursed him back to health left their fingerprint in the glue.

While these unique characteristics are not evidenced in this drawing nor in my first sketch -“Thrift Store Duck”, I plan to explore them in the next study, so stay tuned.

"Hospital Scrub Top" has been saved

This oil painting of my hospital scrub top is quite symbolic for me. I was originally compelled to paint it simply because I liked the contrast of the cool scrub against the warm door. This is the back door of my home, which opens to the west. Three hours into the study, as the sun began to set I noticed the light spilling in under the door. In a flash, I realized it was not so much a study of warm and cool as it was a metaphor for new beginnings. You see, I was laid off from my hospital job in December and have been contemplating a career change. I opened the door a crack to let more light through and thought of the possibilities.
